After Hours Youth Group

Youth Leader, Deborah, with members of the After Hours Youth Group.

The youth of the church, aged 14-19, enjoy their own programme of meetings and events, under the supervision of their own youth leader.

After Hours meets every alternate Friday. From what we hear they have a great time.

We asked Geo, a member of the Group, to share what After Hours means to her:

"I find Youth Group such an important part of my life. With everything happening around me, college, home life, new and old friends, it is good to be able to come to Youth Group and relax. The teachings are always so interesting whether it be discussion or a DVD. I always come away knowing something more about God and it always astonishes me.

With our growing Youth Group there is always such a good relationship with each of us and our youth leaders. Any time I've had an issue that I wanted to talk to someone about, I know I can always go to them in confidence.

We meet once a fortnight and I am just so thankful that myself and other young people can meet together in fellowship, talk and learn so much more about God."

We give praise to God that no less than three young people who have attended After Hours (Simon, Tim and Sam) have been led by God to study at The Bible College of Wales in Swansea (now renamed Trinity School of Theology in Rugby), while a fourth, Emma, has completed a 9 month period of study and training at the Christian Riverside School of Performing Arts in Birmingham and, in September, 2010, joined the Christian Oddments Theatre Company in Yeovil.

You can read testimonies from Simon and Emma at Christian Training. Tim's testimony is at Life Stories.

Let's give Deborah the final word: "As Youth Leader, it's a joy to work with these young people. It's so exciting to watch them mature as disciples of Jesus and to see them supporting each other."

Postscript: After many years as Youth Leader, Deborah has now handed over the reins of leadership of the Youth Group to Tim Bechervaise - a former member!

On behalf of the many young people who have benefited enormously from her wise and conscientious leadership over the years - thank you Deborah - and thank you too for your assistance Massimo.

She and husband Massimo expect their first child at the end of March, 2011. We wish God's blessings upon them at this very exciting time in their lives - and we wish Tim well with his new responsibilities as Youth Leader.
